Group trips are great until someone has to remember who paid for the villa, the taxi and the third round of dinner. The fix is simple: record expenses as they happen, decide who shares each one, and settle once at the end.

The method

  1. Record every shared expense when it happens. A note on your phone works; an app that remembers who paid works better.
  2. For each expense, note who paid and who shares it. Not every cost is split by everyone. The airport taxi might be two people, the dinner all six.
  3. Add up what each person paid and what each person owes. The difference is their balance.
  4. Settle with the fewest transfers. If Ana owes Ben and Ben owes Carla, Ana can often pay Carla directly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split expenses with someone who doesn’t have the app?

Yes. In Viajaro you can add travelers by name without an account. They take part in the split and in the final balances even though they never install the app.

Does Viajaro handle different currencies?

Yes. Expenses can be recorded in the currency you paid in and are converted to the trip’s base currency to calculate totals and balances.
